Disha Champions League 2011

Disha Champions League Football - 2012, an annual State level Football Championship Tournament for the children in U 13 & U 17 category was conducted by Disha Sports Academy in association with Chen-nai Football Association (CFA) for the fourth con-secutive year. Tournament lasted for a month and the finals was played between the Tiger Garden and Shaolin Soccer teams at Nehru Stadium on 4th of Feb. The winners were presented with the Disha

Championship league Trophy. Mr. Harish Lakshman, Director of Rane Group and actor Mr. Ajay Ratnam graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour. All other participants were also recognized and felicitated at the Awards Ceremony. The final match was followed by an exciting tie-breaker match for senior teams and a Football entertain-ment session called ‘Kick It’, an interactive fun session which was open for all to participate.

Highlights of the tournament :

League format at the U 17 level for the first time in Chennai.
Finals under flood light.
More than 88 matches were played between 74 teams .
240 goals scored .
Trophies and medals for all the winners, certificate for the runners.
St Micheal, Disha Sports Academy, SBOA and Shaolin Soccers were the winners.

  •  Disha sports academy Shared Overall Championship With YMCA for Independence Day Cup August 2010
  •  Out of 35 teams in the city we won the championship U – 13 Disha champions trophy - 2010.
  •  Disha sports academy Athletics Team Won Overall Championship for K C Tech Y’s Men International Meet..

More than 400 Disha students take public exam Chennai.


Nanda kumar dropped out of the school in when he was in 7th standard because he was slow and school bored him. This boy sold lottery tickets, worked in a mechanic shop but continued his studies and finished school. He was discouraged by his neighbors, friends when he wanted to do UPSC, no one bet on this slum boy to clear the most difficult exam in india but he came first in IAS exam and opted for IRS, today he is commissioner in IT department.
Nanda kumar recalled his inspiring journey to disha scholar who were facing public examination this year. His life inspired many to never give up. Mr Sivalingam, writer, illustrated numerous success stories of young men and women he had encountered and motivated them to do their best.
Earlier DYM students erected games stalls for the disha student to relieve them from the exam pressure.

Foundation Day 2011

We celebrated our 5th anniversary on 13th of November. Actor Surya graced the occasion and presented this year‘s Disha Young Achievers Award to 10 children . It was such a wonderful experience for the children and they enjoyed it immensely.

Naalai Namadhe: A free magazine for Tamil medium students

We all pretty well know that there are very few resources in Tamil to help Tamil medium students to enhance their aca-demic skills in particular and develop gen-eral knowledge. In this context a new magazine titled Naalai Namadhe was re-leased by Actor Surya on Foundation Day. 25000 copies are printed and given to stu-dents in government schools and NGOs. Disha Scholarship Programme

New scholarships for the academic year 2011-12 were given to 470 students in Chennai and Virudhunagar. For the first time 96 college students were selected for scholarship directly from Virudhunagar district alone. With this the number of scholars who received scholarship in 2012 was around 3200.

Summer Camps

In the month of May we ran camps for Disha scholars at various levels. Three camps were held from 5th of May till 27th of May. The regular fun camp was held at Sevalaya School. 75 scholars partici-pated. Crafts and games were the main theme of the camp.

Disha Leadership Camp was organized for the first time for students from all Disha projects in Elagiri hill station. It was a mixture of talents from both sports and academics.
Sports Training Camp was also con-ducted for 10 days for selected players who had potential to play at the na-tional level.

Highlights of the Camps
63 students from Virudhunagar, Chennai ponneri and Elagiri participated.

Activities:
Trekking, Nature Watch Competitive Sports, Leadership Competitions and culturals. Yoga and leadership lectures were part of the camps.

34 sports scholars completed 24 KM trekking expedition.

Employability

Who better can understand the gap between employment and employability other than Ma Foi, being in the recruitment field for the last 14 years. Ma Foi Academy has been conceived with the prime objective of addressing the critical need that exists that is increasing employability by developing the skills and competencies of candidates seeking employment.

Ma Foi is aiming to start atleast 100 Centres in various cities / towns to equip students with the necessary skills to enhance employability. Ma Foi Academy is a creative hot shop, which constantly looks at the various kinds of jobs that are getting created and designs innovative programmes to bridge the skill gap that is prevalent. Constant improvisation of the course content depending on the needs is being undertaken. Tier II and Tier III towns are considered and help is extended to deserving and underprivileged students.

Though Ma Foi does not guarantee a job, the Staffing Solutions group in Ma Foi proactively tries to generate job opportunities for students enhancing their skills through the various programmes. The Staffing Solutions group conducts mock-interviews and constantly evaluate the students to give their feedback on the quality of the programme.
